Julie Beth Drey,
President
Julie Beth Drey is a Magna cum Laude graduate of Temple University where she studied clarinet and saxophone with Ron Reuben of the Philadelphia Orchestra.
She has been performing in the Reading area since 1983. As a freelance musician Julie appears with Reading Symphony Orchestra, Pottstown Symphony, Schuylkill Symphony, Reading Choral Society, Berks Chamber Orchestra, Reading Civic Opera, as well as the Reading Pops Orchestra where she serves as President on the Board of Directors.
Her duties include behind the scenes arrangements for each concert, promoting the group, fundraising, and anything benefiting the general success of the orchestra.
Julie is the founder of the Fyve Woodwind Quintet that performs for recitals and weddings. She is a member of the Reading Musical Foundation sponsored Music in the Schools woodwind quintet as well. They present educational concerts for the students of Berks County schools.
Julie and childhood friend Robin Lilarose perform duets in jazz and classical styles as Just Friends for various occaisions and as a participant in the Berks Jazz Fest.
Julie is also an adjunct teacher at Albright College giving private lessons.
Other memorable concerts include appearances with New York Voices, Chuck Mangione, Pancho Sanchez, Tommy Tune, and Bela Fleck and the Flecktones.
Rounding out Julies busy concert schedule is practice time on clarinet, flute, and saxophone, preparing her for her favorite performing opportunity, Broadway style shows. Other passions include listening to jazz, swimming, and sewing.
Willis M. Rapp,
Principal Conductor
Willis M. Rapp, Professor of Music at Kutztown University, serves as chair of the Department of Music as well as Director of bands and Percussion
Studies.
He holds a Bachelors and Masters of Music degrees in Music Education from West Chester University and the Diploma of Fine Arts in Wind Conducting and Literature from the University of Calgary, Alberta, Canada. During the 1997-98 academic year, Mr. Rapp completed his residency requirements for the Doctor of Musical Arts degree in Instrumental Conducting at The Catholic University of America in
Washington, D.C., which he received in May 1999.
Before his appointment at Kutztown, Dr. Rapp served on the faculty at Millersville University, Southeastern Louisiana University, and Iowa State University.
Dr. Rapp's career as a published author includes more than 300 percussion ensemble compositions and arrangements through Jenson and Hal Leonard Publications.
His articles and reviews have appeared in Percussive Noted, The Percussionist, Selmer Bandwagon, and Yamaha New Ways.
Dr. Rapp is principal timpanist of the Allentown Symphony and performs as a percussionist with the Lehigh Valley Chamber Orchestra. He has performed as a recitalist, guest conductor, and clinician in 24 states and parts of Canada.
