About the Reading Pops Orchestra

This is an exciting time for the Reading Pops Orchestra, which has come a long way since Wes Fisher formed the organization in 1969.

It was Fisher’s vision to create a first-class orchestra that would be committed to promoting the musical arts in Berks County through the maintenance of a professional orchestra for public concert performances.

The Pops has changed over the years, but its mission remains the same.

The Pops' annual summer schedule features free community concerts at the Reading Public Museum, Gring’s Mill, Muhlenberg High, the Bandshell in City Park, and other outdoor venues.

The Pops reputation as a dynamic orchestra has grown in recent years when it collaborated with major artists during the annual Berks Jazz Fest in March.

During the Berks Jazz Fest, the Pops have performed with some of the top names in jazz — Ramsey Lewis, David Benoit, Chuck Mangione, Jim Brickman, John Pizzarelli, The Four Freshmen, and New York Voices.

Those successful concerts set the stage for the inaugural “Sunday With The Pops” series in 2007-2008 that featured collaborations with the City Rhythm Orchestra, The Four Freshmen, and Diane Schuur.

The Reading Pops Orchestra thanks everyone for their continued support as it nears its 40th anniversary milestone!
